Stone Chip in the Windscreen - What to Do?
A stone chip in the windscreen is an annoying event for any driver. But not every stone chip automatically means an expensive replacement of the whole windscreen. In many cases a low-cost repair is possible if you act quickly and take the right steps.
Immediate Steps After a Stone Chip
Drive on carefully and avoid strong vibrations. Extreme temperature changes can make the damage worse. Cover the stone chip with clear adhesive tape to keep dirt out.
Contact an auto glass expert as soon as possible. The earlier a professional assesses the damage, the better the chances of a successful, low-cost repair.
When Is a Repair Possible?
A stone chip can generally be repaired if the damage meets the following criteria: the damage has a diameter of no more than 2-3 cm, the stone chip is outside the driver's direct field of vision (about 30 cm from the steering wheel), the windscreen has not been pierced, and there are no additional cracks spreading from the stone chip.
The Repair Process in Detail
Our special resin is injected into the stone chip under vacuum. After curing under UV light, the surface is polished. The result: the stone chip is practically invisible and the structural integrity of the glass is restored. The entire repair takes only about 30-45 minutes.
Costs and Insurance Cover
A professional stone chip repair costs far less than a complete glass replacement. Many fully comprehensive insurance policies (Vollkasko) even cover stone chip repairs with no excess. We handle billing directly with your insurer - completely free of charge and hassle-free for you.
