How to Care for Your Sunroof and Glass Roof
A glass roof or sunroof gives your car a special driving feel and lets lots of light into the interior. But these luxurious auto glass components need special care and attention to stay functional and looking good in the long run. Here you'll learn all about proper maintenance and care.
Regular Cleaning Is Crucial
Use only mild, pH-neutral glass cleaners without harsh chemicals. Harsh cleaning agents can damage the seals and cause leaks.
Clean the glass roof thoroughly at least once a month. If it is very dirty, or after driving under tree canopies, you should clean it more often.
Check Seals and Drainage Channels
The rubber seals around the sunroof are particularly prone to wear. Check them regularly for cracks, hardening or leaks. Drainage channels must be kept free of leaves, dirt and other contaminants, as blocked drains can lead to water damage inside the vehicle.
Mechanics and Electrical Components
On electric sunroofs, the rails should be cleaned and greased regularly. Use a special silicone spray or Teflon grease for this. Test the opening and closing function regularly and watch out for unusual noises or jerky movements.
Winter Care and Frost Protection
In winter your sunroof needs special attention. Remove snow and ice carefully with a plastic scraper. Never use hot water or harsh de-icers. In frost you should not open the sunroof, as the seals could be frozen and get damaged.
